Highlights 2010

>div>
APRIL

At the beginning of the year a friend of ours, Renee, was baptized. It was a privilege and a blessing to attend some of the missionary discussions with her. I was amazed with how she studied & asked all the right questions. The spirit was truly guiding her.

After the freezing cold weather passed we were able to go outdoors. We made a delicious meal and made a picnic out of it on the front lawns of our apartment complex. It was a beautiful sunny day but still chilly in the shade. Joseph is a "hottie" :) and thought it was too hot to put the blanket in the sun so we settled for half in the shade & half in the sun. It was a beautiful day!

MAY

Graduation Day!!! My parents, grandparents, brother & mother-in-law came to my graduation. I graduated with my bachelor of science degree in dental hygiene. All the hard work paid off and I graduated cum laude and at the top 7% of seniors so I was accepted into an organization called phi kappa phi. My parents came down the week before to celebrate with the dental hygiene class. We had a luncheon at a Resort on the East side of Flagstaff. It was delicious. There was a lot of picture taking and they handed out rewards at the end.

A few days before graduation we decorated our graduation caps as a class at the South Family housing. The picture below shows my cap and Brittany's cap. After the ceremony I found my family waiting outside and we took more pictures, there were lots of hugs & Joseph gave me roses.

We concluded the occasion by having lunch with Bridgette's family, Brittany's family & my family. We ate delicious shish-kabobs & different kinds of salads.

Wedding & Honeymoon

The most important day of my life! I met Joseph on the 12th of July and he immediately scooped me up. I found him to be the sweetest guy I've ever known. He "committed" me to being his girlfriend only a week after we met. Although we had spent practically every day of that week together. We were engaged August 8th and the busy wedding planning began from there. My mom was wonderful and handled all of the wedding arrangements- the reception hall, the catering, the wedding cake, the dress, the decorations, the wedding pictures, bouquets, engagement pictures & who know's what else. So I guess it was just really busy for my mom! :)

Our wedding was at 10 AM of December 19th 2009 at the Snowflake Temple. It was a warm day for December but still very cold. We had a very crowded sealing room with both our families and a couple of friends. Most of my family stayed after for the big family group picture but most of the Boone's had to leave. The 2nd to last picture is just of my family with Joseph and me. They were a great support! After the wedding we exited the temple for pictures & then drove to the wedding luncheon. It was difficult getting the whole dress carefully into the car. The luncheon was at the Pioneer Church & it was a Mexican-style theme with shredded beef/elk tacos. Afterwards Joseph and I headed to my house for a short nap and then went to the reception hall. My wedding colors were Red & Black. It was elegant and turned out very well. The reception hall was beautiful with the chandeliers, beautiful antique furniture, and the elegant Victorian style room. Many of our friends and family came and we were grateful for the support. Joseph and I had discussed serving cake to one another and he had always teased that he would shove it all over my face- but my threatenings and his own kindness I believe were what kept him at bay. He served it nicely like a husband should. We had a slideshow with pictures & music all ready to go but the day before the computer crashed and the whole slideshow was lost. But Mr Gentry, our school choir teacher who is a very talented & well-practiced pianist, agreed to come and play music at our reception. So I think it turned out even better- we had live music!

After the reception we left for Pinetop. My parents rented a time share for us to stay at and it was a very nice place. The next morning we went to church and then began traveling to California. We took turns driving. We stayed at a hotel very close to Disneyland and could even watch the fireworks from our window. The next day we were so excited to go to Knott's Berry Farm Amusement Park that we arrived an hour early. We took pictures around the Christmas tree and found ourselves at the very front of the line. As soon as they opened the gates we were off to the largest ride which we found hadn't opened yet. So we left to find another ride - Bigfoot rapids - and we got wet of course. It was a very fun day and we took time out to eat at their famous restaurant. It was absolutely delicious! It will always be a family favorite.
When we got back to the hotel that day we both had headaches from the jerking of the roller coasters. We ate our leftovers from lunch and tried to watch a movie but we were too tired.

The next day we were set to be at Disneyland. We arrived early but at least not an hour early like the day before. We tried to use RideMax so we could get a lot of rides in without waiting in lines. My family has always used it and it's done very well for us, but on this extremely busy day (one of their busiest- they were sold out) the RideMax wasn't working and when it said 30 min wait it was really more like 2 hrs so we stopped following the RideMax and kind of made it up as we went along. We still fit in most of the rides and enjoyed our time together. We ate lunch at a cute Mexican restaurant that was very quiet for being right in the middle of the park. We had park hoppers so we could also go to California Adventures park. We stayed until almost closing time for the park.

The last day of our honeymoon we went to the temple and then we had to hurry and drive home so we could get ready for Christmas!

2009 Highlights

This portion of my blog will contain highlights but will not include wedding/honeymoon.

The first major event of the year was that my grandparents came home from their church mission. They did a humanitarian mission in Hong Kong/ Asia area. Many family members came to greet them home. We gathered at the end of the airplane terminal to give a cheer when we saw them coming. We were all very excited to have our grandparents/ parents home after being gone for about a year and a half. After they went around hugging and talking to each family member, my grandpa and grandma went over to a long wall and motioned for us to come join them for a group picture.

A fun event during school was at the institute. Bridgette, Margo and I designed a derby car to race in the competition. It actually was pretty fast and we were surprised but we didn't win. Although, we did get a prize for most original. We shaved the car down to make it look long and round like a pickle. Then we painted it and added those dark green dots. They gave us a butterfinger for winning.

In March there was an institute dance. LDS boys are difficult to find in Flagstaff and we all wanted to go so I called up a couple friends of mine from my hometown to come up for the occasion. I originally called Jeff who told me he would like to bring a good friend of his that he wanted me to meet but then told me that his friend was taking a trip to Utah. (This happened to be Joseph whom I have been married to for over a year now! He had gone up to Utah to...uh I forgot) So he found a mutual friend of ours from high school- David. We went on a crazy hike, had a fabulous dinner, took pictures, went to the dance and had a blast and then came home to burn the pinata. It was an excellent day!

That summer I did my dental hygiene internship at the Hopi Health Care Center. It was only for a few weeks but they have a house out there where students can stay. The house had a master bed & bath for my instructor/supervisor (Sarah Wheeler) & then 3 bedrooms for me to choose from with 2 beds in each room. It wasn't as lonely as I thought it would be because we were working at the clinic most of the time and we were both so exhausted we would just make dinner, eat, and get ready for bed. Another student, Michelle Hodge, came out for one of the weeks I was there but she stayed somewhere else with either a family member or a friend. It was a really great experience out at Hopi because the majority of my work was scaling and root planing which is the most difficult/ strenuous work for a hygienist.

Soon after my internship ended my friend Brittany Lundin became a Hatch. I was one of her bridesmaids. It was a very exciting occasion. Before the semester ended Bridgette and I put on a bridal shower for her. We decorated, prepared snacks, delivered invitations, and chose some games to play. The game being shown is when she had to pull all sorts of different clothing out of a bag and put on as many items as she could possibly put on.

Catching Up 2008

After 2 yrs of not blogging....I'm back.

This is Sophomore yr of Dental Hygiene School. The sophomores were in charge of decorating for the Kiddie Clinic which is a very low fee clinic for children to get dental cleanings, x-rays, and sealants. The theme is under the sea. The above picture is of us making jellyfish to string from the ceiling made out of streamers, tissue paper & shower caps. The picture below is the boat my group and I built to decorate & protect the computer lab.

Below is some of the children I regularly nannied during the summers that I spent home. Some days there were as many as 10 kids from a few different families! Those were busy, crazy nights! The picture shown is of them playing the "flour game". I grew up playing it with my own family. You place a cup-full of packed flour carefully on a plate so it stays whole and then place a penny on top. Then you pass a butter knife around the table taking turns shaving off a slab of flour and the goal is to keep the penny from falling. Originally, the punishment for the person who caused the penny to fall was that they had to push the penny off the plate with their nose resulting in a floured face! The kids had a ball but made such a mess! I also brought a craft for them- we made telephones with paper cups and string. Two of the boys absolutely loved it!

The picture below is the construction of my parents house. This is a picture of the great room looking up at the window and part of the fireplace. It is Beautiful!

In front of our house we had a huge forest of wild sunflowers that grew so tall we could play hide-and-seek in them!!! Unfortunately, when they died it took hours and hours of work to pull them out of the ground since they had become long, hard, dry sticks. There were thousands of them! The picture can be seen below.

My little brother came to stay with me in Flagstaff so I could clean his teeth in the dental clinic. We had an enjoyable couple of days playing tennis with Brittany (who spent most of the time teaching Matt to hit while I shagged the balls), riding the bus through campus, playing cards, and eating at the Union which was his Favorite! He says he wants to go there on his mission so he can eat there everyday. What a cutie! Also included in order on the right is mom's birthday party, Thanksgiving dinner & all of us watching a family show after we wore ourselves out with racquetball/ walleyball. The very last picture is of my friend Jeff who had just come home from his mission. It was great to see him again.
